Nine new or upgraded engines and six new transmissions will be introduced this year at our Albuquerque Ford dealership, bringing state-of-the-art fuel-saving techonology to all New Mexico drivers.
In an effort to overhaul its entire global powertrain portfolio, Ford will unveil 60 new powertrains this year to improve fuel economy and reduce C02 emissions. The move, which will surely benefit New Mexico Ford drivers, makes Ford the top automaker to reduce C02 emissions.
The fuel-saving techonology includes twin independent variable cam timing, direct injection, and six-speed and dual cluth tranmissions to Ford’s smallest and most affordable cars.
“Ford is delivering on our commitment to lower emisssions, improve fuel economy and deliver the highest quality powertrains in the industry,” said Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Powertrain Engineering.
“By the end of 2010, nearly all of Ford’s North American engines will have been upgraded or replaced since 2008,” said Samardzich. “[This is] one of the most ambitious powertrain upgrades ever undertaken by Ford.”
The new Ford Fiesta Ti-VCT 1.6-liter engine and PowerShift dual clutch transmission will deliver up to 40 miles per gallon. The Ti-VCT 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 in the Ford Mustang continues to keep the Mustang as the head of its class with top performance and up to 30 miles to the gallon.
The Mustang GT will hit the roads of Albuquerque, NM this year with a new 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 412 total horsepower and gives at least 25 miles per gallon.
Albuquerque drivers can also look for the all-new Ford-designed-and-built Super Duty diesel truck engine. The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel will make its mark when it comes to fuel economy towing, hauling, horsepower, and torque.
In 2010, Ford will unveil an EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 for the F-150, which feels like a V-8 but delivers the same fuel economy as a V-6. By 2013, Ford plans to offer EcoBoost engines on 90 percent of its product lineup.
The all-new 2.0-liter Ti-VCT four-cylinder engine will launch at the end of 2010 with the 2012 Ford Focus.
“We are focused on sustainable techonology solutions that can be used not for hundreds or thousans of cars, but formillions of cars, becauset hat’s how Ford will truly make a difference,’ said Samardzich.

The 2010 Ford Taurus was named the ‘Best Redesigned Vehicle’ by Kelley Blue Book’s kkb.com, marking the second consecutive year Ford has won the award.
The Ford Taurus was honored by kkb.com for its expressive, upscale design and engaging driving dynamics. Alburquerque drivers can experience all the features of a luxury vehicle with a much affordable price tag thanks to Dan Chalmers, the premier Ford dealer in New Mexico.
“What’s amazing about the Taurus is that it just bristles with technology at such a responsibly and very acceptable price point,” said James Bell, executive market analyst for kbb.com. “I think that’s what makes it somewhat revolutionary.”

The technology features that make the Ford Taurus a great new design for New Mexico consumers include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning with Brake Support, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert. Plus MyKey parental programmability, and Ford SYNC and Voice-Activated Navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link.
But what pushed the 2010 Ford Taurus to number one was not just one feature, according to kbb.com’s Bell.
“It’s the whole package- great value, great build quality and great technology,” he said. “We at Kelley Blue Book couldn’t help but embrace the new Taurus.”
This is the second consecutive year Ford has been recognized by kbb.com for a redesigned vehicle, with the last honor going to the 2009 Ford F-150. As for the 2010 Ford Taurus which is available now to all New Mexico drivers, Bell said, “this not your father’s Taurus” and the new design was a “massive departure” from the original.
“[The 2010 Ford Taurus] reinvigorates a brand that everybody wants to be proud of, applaud, and be excited about,” said Bell.

New Mexico Ford Dealer Don Chalmers is proud to announce the latest quality study to the overall Ford lineup. The news release will surely have all New Mexico Ford vehicle owners smiling.
Results from J.D. Power and Associates most recent quality study shows all Ford Motor Company brands improved in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study(SM). This may be because Ford is listening to customers and using this feedback to steer its product design and engineering.
APEAL is the industry’s top study measuring what customers like about the performance, execution, and layout of their new vehicle after the first three months it is in service. Customer’s rate their level of delight on a variety of vehicle attributes, including safety, fuel economy, cargo space and roominess, exterior styling and price. This year’s study is based on survey responses from owners of 2009 model-year vehicles.
The Ford brand improves by 17 index points to move up six rank positions among nameplates from last year. The company’s Lincoln brand improves 18 index points and moving up two spots from last year. Mercury improves by eight index points and Volvo improves by two index points.
These results were helped by the strong performance of the company’s all-new and newly redesigned vehicles including the Ford Flex and F-150 (tie) – both taking home segment awards. The Ford Flex and F-150 scored better than the segment average in every category, performing especially well in the areas of fuel economy and audio/entertainment/navigation. F-150 improved 52 index points from last year. F-150 is also the highest ranked large pickup in initial quality in a tie.
To score higher in customer satisfaction, Ford is changing the way it defines quality. The company is not only delivering vehicles with fewer defects, but it is also putting greater emphasis on features that appeal most to customers.
“At Ford, we are accelerating the development of vehicles customers will fall in love with at first sight and grow even fonder of over time.” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Product Development. “To deliver on that promise, our goal is nothing less than product excellence in design, feature content, safety and quality—all at an exceptional value.”
